Aquamation: A Gentle, Modern Choice for Today’s Families

When families in Sarnia & Lambton County experience a loss, they want options that feel meaningful, respectful, and aligned with their values. Over the past decade, more people have been looking for something gentler than flame cremation and more environmentally responsible. Aquamation offers exactly that.

Aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis, is a modern, science based process that uses water, warmth, and alkali to return a loved one to their natural elements. It reflects the same process that occurs in nature, simply accelerated in a controlled and sterile environment.

At McCormack Aquamation, Burial & Cremation Services, we are proud to be the only aquamation provider in the Sarnia & Lambton County region and the first in Canada to offer the Resomation® Aquamation system on site. With over 80 years of service and a legacy that began in 1940, our family owned and operated team continues to provide compassionate, forward thinking care.

What Exactly Is Aquamation?

Aquamation is a water based alternative to traditional flame cremation. Instead of fire, it uses:

  • 95% water and 5% alkali

  • gentle heat

  • time and natural chemistry

This process breaks down organic material naturally and efficiently. What remains are:

  • pure, clean bone ash returned to the family, similar to cremated remains

  • a sterile and biodegradable solution containing amino acids, sugars, salts, and nutrients, with no DNA, RNA, tissue, pharmaceuticals, or disease

There are no emissions, no smoke, and no flame involved in the process.

Why Families Are Choosing Aquamation

A Gentle and Dignified Process

Aquamation offers a calm and respectful approach. There is no burning or harsh heat, only a peaceful process rooted in natural science.

A Modern and Thoughtful Option

Today’s families often seek choices that reflect compassion, awareness, and care for the environment. Aquamation aligns with these values.

An Environmentally Responsible Choice

Families across Sarnia & Lambton County appreciate that aquamation:

  • uses significantly less energy than flame cremation

  • does not rely on fossil fuels

  • produces no airborne emissions

  • releases no mercury

For those who value sustainability, this is an important factor.
